If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic country seat, there’s no shortage of other diversions on the doorstep. Hunstrete House lies in one of the most historic regions of England with beautiful cities, ancient monuments, glorious gardens and grand stately homes all within a short distance.

Explore Bath’s countless treasures: the ancient Roman Baths, the architectural excellence of the Royal Crescent and the Circus, and some of Britain’s finest shopping.

Just a few miles to the south of Hunstrete House is the ancient city of Wells with the magnificent Wells Cathedral, a perfect example of an ancient English cathedral largely untouched by time. Wells Cathedral School, a unique school for young musicians, and the moated Bishop’s Palace are both well worth a visit.

Near Wells is Glastonbury with the ruined Glastonbury Abbey and gravestones marking the fabled burial place of King Arthur and Guinevere. Glastonbury Tor remains an important place of pilgrimage after many centuries and is said to be Merlin’s final resting place and Glastonbury Festival, the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world, is not far away.

Only a mile or so to the south of Glastonbury is Street, the home of the world famous shoe industry founded there in the last century by a local family, the Clarks. The town now has its own major factory shopping complex - Clarks Village. Street is also the home of Millfield School, the public school with an enormous international reputation. Another nearby school is Downside School set in the ancient building of Downside Abbey.

Cheddar Caves and Gorge, one of the four wonders of England situated in the Somerset village of Cheddar, is located just a short and pretty drive from the hotel.

If you’re planning a trip into Bath to see the many attractions and historical sights, you might like to visit the Bath Film Festival, The Bath International Music Festival, the Bath Literature Festival, the Bath Mozartfest or the famous Bath Christmas Market or the new Thermae Bath Spa.

At nearby Tyntesfield, there are beautiful formal gardens and a wonderful kitchen garden as well as the wonders of the mansion itself and The National Amateur Gardening Show is just down the road at the Royal Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet in September. During your stay at Hunstrete House, you might also like to visit the Mendip Food and Drink Festival, supported by the best local producers throughout Somerset.
